2008 Super Lap Battle
This year SuperLap Battle Prima Racing is working together with two companies. Continuing lat year effort with new and improved Speed Element’s 2006 Mitsubishi Evo9, and N1 Concept 2000 S2000. We have high hopes with both cars.
The EVO is a work in progress. Speed Element goal is to make a competitive Modified/Limited Time Attack car using all off-the-shelf parts. The goal is race on Sunday and sell on Monday.
The S2000 was built by J’s Racing. It came from Japan and we only made some minor changes to alignment and tire. The car is still in NA form. Unfortunately this car is classified in Unlimited Class. We know we can’t compete in power wise to fight for the win, but maybe take the top honor in fastest NA.
Because of our busy schedule and our priorities to customers, we weren’t able to do too much testing. In fact, the EVO had done zero testing since we put JRZ suspension and front splitter. I know this will hurt us in the competition. However, we had set our priorities, and it is always customer first.
In this year SuperLap Battle, Hartanto will be driving both cars. The EVO in Limited AWD class and the S2000 in Unlimited RWD. Both cars using Toyo R888 tires.
In Qualifying round, Hartanto was able to put both cars in the fastest group (A). However, because he had to split his time between both cars, the S2000 is relegated to group C. It was another day in the office for Hartanto, jumping from two different car, one is left hand drive AWD monster to a refine right hand drive RWD and posting competitive times in both cars.
After the first session, it was clear right away that we are facing some tough competition. In the class where the EVO compete, we are significantly slower than the eventual winner, Evasive Motorsport, and the third guy, MFQ Motorsport, nipping at our heels.
The S2000 did fare better. Not in respect of the class, since we are basically competing in Unlimited class with Limited tires (Toyo R888). We are however, really close in winning the sub class, fastest Normally Aspirated (NA) car.
At the end of the day, we fell short. We captured second with the EVO in limited class, a distant 3 seconds behind. The S2000 missed the top honor NA car by 0.08 second to 5Zigen car.
From here we are back to drawing board. We are confident we can go faster. The lack of testing is what hurt us more. We learned from experience, and next year we will definitely fighting for the win.
Thanks to all our sponsors, and special thanks to our team members.
